EA still sucks (big surprise)

So I downloaded Spore and Mercenaries 2. Spore is cool, no doubt, but it seems to eventually become a RTS-like game, and I'm not a fan of RTS games myself. But whatever, the idea is really cool still and I think it's well done.

But Mercenaries 2, HOLY SHIT, it's BAD. I played a bit of the first one and thought it was really cool, but I played it on a console and I didn't like console controls much (back then). Downloaded this one for the PC and the controls are PURE SHIT. First of all, the menus and pop-up windows in the game (for accept/reject a contract), the mouse doesn't register worth a damn. So ok, use the d-pad and the space bar for selecting, not a huge deal, but the mouse should work fine and for no reason it just doesn't work, strike one.

So at one point I attack a villa and try to kill a bunch of guys outside. The camera is moving around like it has a oxygen-deprived mind of its own; it makes no sense and I can't see what the hell I'm shooting at. I get out of a vehicle facing one direction, the camera resets at some random direction, then is down at the ground, so I can't see a damn thing that's around me and I die. Great, strike two.

Then I go to this tower of some kind, I'm supposed to protect it. I get up top to set up an air strike. So I select it from the menu, and choose which one to use. But instead of me aiming at some target, or getting an overhead display to guide the missile, it drops a beacon RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Yeah, that's REALLY going to help me out. So the air strike ends up blowing up the tower that I'm on and I fall to my death, strike three, this game is shit.

Oh, and the story is pathetically stupid, the in-game dialogue is atrocious and incredibly lame (they bleep "shit" but allow "bitch" and other words). At one point, a guy dies saying "AH! I'm getting shot! But there's no blood! Stupid T-Rating...", and no that's not a joke no that's not an exaggeration. It's just STUPID.

Yes, it REALLY is that bad. I played the first one and thought it was really fun. This one is pathetic by all comparison. Seems like a bad beta version was released to the public or something; textures are of low quality (everything's on high settings here), controls are weak and never (really, NEVER) explained, the game has a mind of its own, the AI is poor, the effects are weak and unimpressive, the story is cheesy and poorly told, the characters are bland, the weapons are moderately ok, the driving is incredibly sluggish, the aiming system is pure shit, ESPECIALLY in vehicles, people have had all sorts of issues with corrupted game saving, bad online connectivity, etc. etc. etc. the list goes ON AND ON.

And the missions are good at being challenging, but sometimes they are obnoxiously difficult. I was stuck at one point, spawning between two fighting factions, so I would be destroyed within <2 seconds every time I spawned, and only got out of it by pure luck. I swear it took at least 12 tries.

This game has good ideas and truly shitty execution with no optimization whatsoever, plain and simple. Extremely disappointing. I'm going to continue playing it until I beat the game, then immediately delete it from my system. While I'm not surprised that EA would let people pay their money for this piece of buffalo feces, I'm extremely disappointed that they haven't learned from their mistakes and think they can succeed by simply buying out all their competition. It's a fucking pathetic strategy; "let's buy other people out so we don't have to do any real work ourselves".
